SYC’s plan to get back racing and running on-water events

Monday, 12th October 2020

CORRESPONDENCE TO SYC Members via email on Monday 12 October

Dear Members

Like you, we hope the next easing of restrictions will open things up for us here at SYC. In the event that they do, and we are permitted to go racing and run on-water events, then it is our intent to return to the water as early and safely as possible. With this in mind, our three boating sub-committees, Sail (keelboat), Off the Beach and Recreational Boating have all been hard at work planning for this to happen. So whilst there are no guarantees, we thought it would be timely and appropriate to share these plans with you – so that you can start making your necessary plans.

  • Keelboat Racing – With the prospect of being able to return to racing in Step Three, there is a range of important information to take note of for when this time comes including crew limits, social distancing requirements, information on the format of racing and more. Whilst we don’t have an exact return date, we can confirm that as soon as we are permitted to run keelboat racing, we will, on all our normal race days. Click here to read our Keelboat plans
  • Off the Beach Racing & Training – Step Three looks set to bring about some positive improvements for our OTB sailors, particularly for our junior sailors and our single handed senior sailors. When permitted, we’ll jump straight into racing on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons and even kick of our OTB training programs where permitted under the applicable restrictions. Click here to read our Off the Beach plans
  • Recreational Boating Events – based on the anticipated easing of restrictions when Step Three comes about, and the restrictions which are likely still to be in effect, the first events we will most likely be permitted to host will be our Fishing Competition, Nav Rallies and maybe even a short Cruise in Company. These events are some of our favourite events and are open to all members and types of boats, big or small, power or sail. Click here to read our Recreational Boating plans

When we have a pathway forward, including dates, we will populate calendars, provide entries and be in touch with more detail. Locking in calendars will also populate our website, Memberpoint app and things will start to look a bit more normal. We will be in touch.

  • Podcast #25 – SYC Heritage is the theme this week and George and Deeksie catch up with Shane and Maryvonne Le Peyre, Wayne and Jill Frankcombe and we also get to hear from Past Commodore Geoff Henderson, Graeme Watt and Graeme Disney about their roles on the SYC Heritage Committee – tune into the podcast here

Warm Regards & Stay Safe,

Richard Hewett
