Chef / cooks

Located on the foreshore of Port Phillip Bay, the Sandringham Yacht Club offers outstanding event, conferencing, a la carte and bistro outlets. A fantastic opportunity exists for a Chef/Cook to join the team.

We are looking for a highly energetic, experienced full time Chef/Cook and has employment experience within clubs or restaurants. Your strong focus on food quality and presentation will be highly regarded, as well as your ability to work in a fast paced busy team environment.  Your availability across a Monday to Sunday 7-day rotating roster is essential to meet the demands of the business.

Lead Sailing Instructor and Junior Development Squad Coordinator

Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC), one of Australia’s leading yacht clubs, is looking for an experienced person to fill the role of Lead Sailing Instructor and Junior Development Squad Coordinator.

SYC is an outstanding sailing facility in Victoria with 2,800 members, 500 onsite boats and a healthy boating program. The purpose of this position is to organise and deliver keelboat and dinghy training at SYC.

An exciting challenge, the position covers activity across two of the Club’s three core boating streams (keelboat and dinghy) within the Club’s thriving boating academy.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct the rostering and supervision of the teams of instructors who are required to deliver the training calendar. Training and upskilling of our instructor base is also a very important part of the role.    

A diverse and challenging position, the successful candidate must be an accredited Australian Sailing Instructor for both Keelboat and Dinghy with aspirations of obtaining Club Coach accreditation in the near future.

Other requirements are a solid knowledge of racing rules, course setting, water safety, child safety regulations, attention to detail and a common-sense approach when dealing with students participating on training courses.

The position deals with many stakeholders on a day-to-day basis, not limited to Club members, students, parents and instructors. As such, applicants need to possess great communication skills and be highly professional and courteous.

Applicants also need to be at home around computers. If needed, system specific training will be provided.

Days of work will be predominantly Wednesday – Sunday including attendance at evening meetings. He or she will work in a friendly and supportive environment in a prime location in Melbourne’s Bayside waterfront. 

The successful candidate will report directly to the Training & Development Manager and will be accountable to the Off The Beach Club Captain for the delivery of training to the Junior Development Squads.

Do you have a passion for sailing and a desire to share your skills with others ?

SYCBA is accredited to train and assess Keelboat Instructor candidates and Dinghy Instructor training is available through Yachting Victoria.

Prerequisite qualifications for sailing instructors include First Aid, Marine Radio Certificate, Powerboat Handling Certificate and Working with Children Check. Please contact SYCBA if you are interested in working as an instructor in either keelboats or dinghies.
