This Saturday 27 November, SYC Members and their guests get to celebrate the Opening of our sailing season. Please spend a few minutes to read the key info below.
The day gets underway with the opening ceremony at 1pm and will be followed by the sail past from 2pm and the OTB Ronstan Opening Day Challenge from 2.30pm. From 4pm, come back to the hardstand village and join in the family fun. Food trucks, live entertainment, jumping castles, magician, balloon artist, CUB can bar and a great atmosphere awaits. The Yacht Rock revival band will play on the hardstand and will play two 1 hour sets, 5.30-6.30pm and 7-8pm. The day will conclude around 9pm.
Getting into the spirit of Opening Day is a great tradition at SYC. This years theme is “Yacht Rock”, so pull on your best retro 70’s and 80’s outfits with a nautical twist. The Commodore will be awarding ‘best dressed boats’ and “best dressed Members’.
The sail past instructions are below. If you’re not heading out on the water, come view the sail past from the Members’ Bar and deck which will open from 11.30am. The Members’ Bar kitchen will be open from 11.30am-9pm. The Ken King Centre will have egg and bacon rolls on offer in the morning from 8am and over lunch we will have kranskies and steak sandwiches on offer.
Three food trucks (Wood Fired Pizza, Chef Calamari and VANilla Bean) will be in the village from 4pm-8pm offering things like wood fired pizzas, calamari, fish and chips, ice creams etc.
The farmers market will be operating at Trey Bit Reserve so it is not available for overflow parking until 2pm – so please consider getting dropped off, car pooling, jumping in an uber, walking down to the Club or riding. Parking will be at an absolute premium and the front gate will be marshalled to control entry. For those arriving anytime after 2pm, please park in Trey Bit Reserve.
Everyone is required to QR code upon entry and those entering the village, clubhouse or Ken King Centre for non-take away will need to show proof of vaccination. And please do your bit for the environment this year – don’t create waste (use recyclables), if you do create waste dispose of it appropriately, recycle where possible and assist the club by taking some home with you.
Let’s break the covid shackles, and kick our season off with a bang. I hope to see you Saturday.
