CORONAVIRUS MEMBER UPDATE – FRIDAY 1 MAY

Friday, 1st May 2020

CORRESPONDENCE TO MEMBERS via email on Friday 1 May

Dear Members

Hope everyone is well. Three updates for you heading into the weekend;

1) eSailing – SYC is proud to announce that we will be resuming a range of our favourite club racing series through the online platform Virtual Regatta! Whilst we may not be able to get on the water at this current point in time, it is hoped that using the online platform, this will bring like-minded members and crews together to keep their racing skills sharp. To get racing, simply download the app on your phone or iPad, or play online. We have all of the links available on our regatta pages so feel free to check them out by clicking here. With this, we bring two pieces of good news:

· SYC will be competing in the Australian eSailing National Challenge. This is a three stage challenge with stage one being a club level qualification on the 9 and 16 May. The winner of this round will then represent SYC in the Victorian eSailing State Championships. The top two from this stage will compete in the Australian eSailing National Challenge which will consist of racing off against the top sailors from each state or territory and three members of the Australian Sailing Team, including reigning back-to-back European Laser Champion and Tokyo 2021 representative Matt Wearn. For more information or to register for the SYC challenge, click here.

· We will be holding a range of our favourite keelboat and Off the Beach series throughout the week. Two of our favourite keelboat series, our Mercedes-Benz Brighton Wednesday Wonders and Mercedes-Benz Brighton Thursday Twilight Series will be back as will our regular Off the Beach Series on Sunday afternoons. For more information or to register for one or more of the SYC eSailing series, click here.

Racing against fellow members will provide a great opportunity to connect with each other and enjoy some fun and competitive racing amongst the membership. If you need a hand getting started, click here for links to get sailing and a few user guides/videos. If you need any further assistance, you can contact SYC Sailing Manager James Sly at [email protected] or phone 9599 0907.

2) I WILL STAND BY TO ASSIST YOU (C – G – 1) – the San Francisco Yacht Club have re-introduced a great visual signalling initiative and SYC are getting in on the act. It offers a visual sense of camaraderie and a way for Clubs to communicate with each other and their members so that they know the Yacht Club would be there when their Members are able to return to sailing. Read up on this great initiative here.

3) 50 Community Connect Offers – Check out the latest ‘member to member offers’, three of which include home delivered, award winning Oakdene Wines, secondly warm yourself up with a great range of gas and electric heaters from HEATSTRIP and a special thanks to Susan Tuma from Arty Signs who gave our Beach Rd signage a makeover – if you have signage needs she can look after you. Click here to read up on these offers and more.

Don’t forget the Ken King Centre will be trading daily from 11am -5pm with home deliveries available – 9599 0999….but given the weather we won’t be running the popular car wash this weekend but we will get it back on next week.

Warm Regards & Stay Safe
