The breeze inshore was a north easterly at the start of the race but within about 30 minutes it had shifted to the southeast. In between times it decreased enough to bring part of the 39 yacht fleet with handicaps between 16 to 26 minutes almost to a standstill. Six yachts started the race more than 10 minutes late with 10 yachts starting more than 2 minutes late. The median start time was 79 seconds – 4 times the series average. This inshore wind shift did not occur at Fawkner Beacon, which indicated southeasterly breeze averaging about 13 knots for the afternoon. Read more
