Wednesday Wonders Winter Series 2019 Race 5

Saturday, 4th May 2019

Race 5 became the second casualty of the winter series following a strong wind warning issued for Port Philip by the Bureau of Meteorology. Observations recorded at Fawkner Beacon show a northerly wind averaging about 19 knots for the afternoon with gusts reaching 31 knots. Despite the strength of the wind the seas appeared flat. The wind had reached its peak for the day during the late morning but gradually decreased as the day progressed. The wind averaged only 15 knots for the afternoon in the north of the bay (Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron) compared with 20 knots in the south (South Channel). Read More.
