This was not only the slowest race of the series but also the shortest. The 6 leg course 14 of 9.9 nautical miles was reduced to a two leg race of about 4.4 nautical miles and a fleet of 30 starters was reduced to 21 finishers. The breeze varied in both strength and direction throughout the afternoon and eased as the race progressed. As a result the fleet slowed down and crept towards the finish line using up part of the 30 minute extension to the time limit. The gap between first and last yacht to finish was 45 minutes 41 seconds, the largest of the series, but yachts were moving so slowly that a 10 second difference in finish time was a close thing.
