Wednesday Wonders Winter Series 2019 Race 14 – Tranquil Start to the Second Half of the Series

A large high pressure system centred over Victoria ensured a tranquil start to the second half of the winter series. The breeze for the afternoon averaged about 6 knots at Fawkner Beacon and shifted from the south west to the south south east easing slightly as the race progressed. Twenty nine yachts started the race around the 10.7 nautical mile course 40 which was shortened to about 8 nautical miles as a result of the changing conditions. The impact of the changing conditions can be seen in the time taken to sail what became the last leg of the course. On average it took 22.1 minutes to complete the 0.6 mile leg from SYC 4 to SYC 3 – an average speed of 1.6 knots. Read more…
