Wednesday Wonders Winter Series 2018 Race 20 – Another Abandoned Race

This was the fifth WW race to be abandoned in the past 8 weeks. Of the five, two have been abandoned as a result of insufficient breeze whilst the remaining three (including this one) have been abandoned as a result of too much breeze. Observations at Fawkner Beacon show the wind speed for the afternoon averaging about 23 knots with a maximum gust of 33 knots. It was the early hours of the morning (0100) that the breeze reached its maximum for Wednesday with a speed of 33 knots and gust of 29 knots. It fell to a low of 10 knots at 0830 before increasing and becoming more westerly during the late morning and afternoon. Read more…
