The record set in race 14 for the closest finish of the series lasted until 16:01:39 on Wednesday 23 January. Thirty two yachts finished race 16 within 12 minute 36 seconds of each other to establish a new record. The race was around the 9.9 nautical mile course 26. This was the 3rd time the course had been selected this series and it was this race that produced the fastest median elapsed time of 108.73 minutes beating the previous best set in race 4 by 4 minutes. The 35 starters had the help of a southerly breeze that increased as the race progressed and averaged about 18 knots for the afternoon. It came complete with a bit of water over the deck. Read More.
