The southerly change came through close to the start of the race but failed to make the forecast 10-15 knots. According to the Wailing Wall Handicaps were based on 10 to 15 knots. It seemed that SYC had more wind and better conditions than was experienced at Brighton based on the reports from yachts withdrawing from racing due to lack of wind and unpleasant hot temperatures. At the start of the race the wind did drop out for the first 5 mins. It was a long course for the conditions and maybe a shortened course would have been appreciated. The spread of the fleet at the first time past number 4 was 34:16 mins and for the full race 49:58 mins. Read more…
