Vale Tsutomu Kondo

Saturday, 18th May 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tsutomu Kondo, one of the driving forces in recent years behind the Melbourne to Osaka Cup yacht race. A founding member of Osaka Hokko Yacht Club, Kondo San has been a key member of the OHYC Committee and Vice Commodore of the club for many years.

With the Osaka Cup having taken a new direction for the 2013 event, Kondo San was the anchor point in Osaka for the event organizing Committee. During the arrival period of the 2018 event, Kondo San was constantly at the OHYC Club rooms both day and night and was responsible for all customs documentation and clearance for our competitors. For all recent events Kondo San always made sure he was where the action was, traveling to Melbourne for the celebration and start of the race each time.

A mourning ceremony will be held on Saturday at OHYC ahead of his funeral on Sunday. Our condolences to Kondo Sans family and the many close friends he had made in Australia and Japan.
