Update for SYC Boat Owners

Friday, 11th September 2020

CORRESPONDENCE TO SYC Boat Owners via email on Friday 11 September

Dear SYC Boat Owners,

Yesterday I was advised in a Marine Industry round table meeting with Government that SYC boat owners may travel outside their 5KM radius to check on their vessel at SYC. Strict conditions and paperwork apply, including;

  • It is for emergency maintenance or essential safety purposes only
  • You have vessel proof of ownership with you
  • You have verification on SYC letterhead you are a current Member and the vessel is berthed at SYC

If you would like a letter verifying your Membership and boat status at SYC please email [email protected] / please note if Victorian Police pull you up they will be asking for this proof. In that meeting I specifically sought permission on behalf of SYC boat owners and I was assured of the above. I hope this a little bit of good news. Clearly all Members who reside within 5km have the ongoing ability visit the Club to do food shopping, get their daily exercise and also check on the vessel (or combine your exercise with a boat check). We await further responses re our boat yard and some aspects of recreational boating next week. Our thanks to the Boating Industry Association of Vic, Australian Sailing and Better Boating Vic for their advocacy work.

If coming down, naturally all of the normal COVID-19 requirements apply whilst onsite – social distancing, wearing a face covering and practising good hygiene. Your visit naturally needs to be within the curfew limitations.

Boat Checks – don’t forget if you can’t get down, we can assist you. We have a designated safety officer onsite each day to assist with our marina, facility and environmental obligations. As is normally the case, if we discover anything that we think might need some attention on your boat, we’ll do our best to rectify the situation if action is required and we’ll also give you a call to update you on the situation. We have been in regular contact with many of you and at any time, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us or send us through your requests – please email [email protected]

And whilst popping down to the Club, you can also grab a coffee from the Ken King Centre or do a bit of food shopping as it is open daily from 10am-5pm.

Warm Regards & Stay Safe,

Richard Hewett
