SYC J70 Sailing Program – EOI

SYC is delighted to announce the arrival of our first two J70’s arriving in early September with the second two due late September. We are excited about the prospect of providing opportunities for our younger members to continue being active on the water within SYC as well as attracting new sailors to the sport and SYC.
Once we take delivery of the boats and commission them, we will be looking to implement a number of offerings, to help cater for the varying interests of our members. There will be a social program, a development program and an advanced program.
The J70 program will be designed to first and foremost, provide our younger members with an opportunity to have FUN on the water. We hope that through our development and advanced programs, this will provide sailors with more pathway options, including an introduction to keelboat sailing for many of our sailors who come through the OTB pathway.
The intent of our three programs is as follows:
  • Social – to encourage social sailing with a degree of skills development in one-design boats, having FUN whilst participating in a variety of sailing formats. This format will most likely take place on Thursday and/or Friday evenings depending on interest.
  • Development – to provide a pathway from junior dinghy sailing (Optimists, Cadets, school programs, OutThere Sailing etc.) to keelboat sailing and to develop their skills in all formats of racing. This program will be weekend based with the option to add weeknight training as required. This program is perfect for those who have little experience in sailing keelboats.
  • Advanced – to deliver a comprehensive and advanced sailing program to help athletes excel in all areas, both on and off the water. This program will include opportunities to compete on a state, national and even international level. This program will be weekend based with the option to add weeknight training as required. This program is targeted at competent sailors who are already competing on a state, national or international sailing level.

We’re now at the point where we want to hear from you.
