The Tasar National and World Championships will be held at Sandringham Yacht Club between 29 December 2023 and 9 January 2024. Between 100 and 120 boats are expected to attend and we already have 84 entries including teams from Great Britain, France, Japan, America and New Zealand. These events will be the largest double handed one design dinghy sailing competitions in Australia for the coming season. In addition, we know that multiple world champions together with Olympic level sailors will be competing as part of an experienced and high-level international Tasar fleet.
Competing in these events is an exceptional opportunity for SYC Youth and Intermediate sailors to experience world class dinghy racing, to learn from some of the best dinghy sailors in the world, and for SYC to again show its strong support for developing talented young Australian sailors.
Through the support of the SYC Foundation, SYC is offering youth/intermediate members the opportunity to attend these major Tasar events by funding the entry fee for up to 5 teams. We are now looking to understand the level of youth and intermediate sailor interest within the club, to secure boats for them to sail, and support their preparation for these events.
If you are an SYC Youth or Intermediate member and would like to sail in these two Tasar events, we would like to hear from you. Please come forward with your interest if you are a helm, would like to crew or are already a team. It is possible that we will be oversubscribed so candidates will be reviewed on an application basis.
Similarly, if you are an SYC member with a Tasar or access to one, who is not planning to sail in these events and would be prepared to lend your boat to a young SYC team, please let us know as soon as possible. Obviously for this to work, we depend on the generosity of our Tasar and OTB members and we will make sure that all contributions are recognised. Also, we will be ensuring that the young competitors will have adequate training, preparation and access to our existing experienced SYC Tasar fleet.
