A breeze that averaged only about 5 knots for the afternoon saw a race that began as a 7 leg 9.8 nautical mile course reduced to one of 2 legs and about 4.4 nautical miles. Ominous signs appeared early in the afternoon when the lack of breeze delayed the start by 10 minutes. During the delay the breeze did increase from about 3 to 6 knots. It varied in strength and moved slowly around from the west to the east south east as the afternoon progressed. Patience, concentration and persistence were all required to complete the shortened course.
