Last Wednesday, 14 June approximately 54 SYC members and their guests were delighted to listen to fellow member Dr Neil Smith relate his travels and work as a Medical Officer with the RAN.
His address title was ‘Adventures of a Scab Lifter on the High Seas’. (Note; ‘Scab Lifter’ is the Navy slang word for Doctor.)
Neil told us about his recent experiences as a Navy Doctor performing exercises aboard H.M.A.S. Canberra in Australia on the ‘Sea Series 2015’ exercise, the USNS Mercy (a large US Navy Hospital Vessel) and Patrol Boats HMAS Maitland and Pirie on the Operation Resolute 2017 exercise.
The exercises were carried out in Australia’s Northern Waters and in and around the waters of South East Asia.
To support his excellent address Neil showed some amazing and very interesting photographs of his ‘adventures’ while on the above exercises.
