Recreational Boating Guest Speaker April 26 – SANDY MACKINNON

Thursday, 6th April 2017

jack de crowOn Wednesday 26 April 2017, our Guest Speaker will be SANDY MACKINNON.

Sandy, a sailor and writer will share some tales from his Odyssey written in his book, ‘The Unlikely Voyage of Jack de Crow.’ This will definitely be a night not to be missed!

Sandy started out sailing in his Mirror dinghy. On one occasion, the plan was to go just 10km but this soon changed as Sandy continued on all the way from North Shropshire to London via the canals.  Sandy found himself enjoying the experience so much so that he decided to keep going and going, all the way across the Channel, through the river and canal system to the Black Sea.

In total, this journey saw Sandy travelling approximately 4,900 kilometres passing through 282 locks and 12 countries.  Come down and enjoy a night at the Club as Sandy retells with great humour of his encounters with people he meets along the way…. some helpful, some threatening (like Balkan pirates), and some who helped with his maintenance or provided a cup of tea or a meal and a few drinks along the way.

Based on a true story of Sandy’s experiences along the way…sometimes only just believable that he survived.

Sandy was born in Australia and currently teaches at Geelong Grammar Timbertop campus.
