Opening Day 2019 – Wrap Up, Video & Photos

10 out of 10!

What a fantastic day we had for Opening Day on Saturday 5 October, it was great to see so many of our members down at the Club getting into the spirit of the theme, 10 or Red & White, to not only see in the start of the 2019/20 sailing season, but continue the Clubhouse’s 10th Anniversary celebrations! The weather was on our side with perfect weather conditions, we couldn’t have asked for a better day!

The Village was abuzz early on with the inflatable obstacle course, jumping castle and Myuna Farm petting animals. Haley and Steve entertained from the stage and performed a wonderful rendition of our National Anthem during the official ceremony.

The Sail Past looked amazing both on and off the water.  The effort that went into decorating boats to the theme was amazing!  It seemed there was more boats than ever participating to give me three cheers and a soaking of water!

After grabbing a free sausage from the Northern Podium where the Andy Healey Trio were entertaining, the crowd and the kids were occupied with the face painter and magician in the Olympic Room.

The awards for the best dressed boats went to:

Keel: Lebrok, Theo Korbel
Recreational Boating: Estella Grace, Stephan Morrison Jack
OTB: Strong Willed, Will Fearn

Happy Hour in the Port Phillip Room was well received and then the highlight of the day…what a fantastic performance Mental as Anything gave us!  From start to finish, the dancefloor was packed as Greedy and the guys belted out all of their hits!  What an amazing show!

All in all, we had a wonderful celebration of the opening of the 2019/20 Sailing Season at our Club, it was filled with great entertainment from start to finish and I hope you all enjoyed the day!

Our thanks also to Juliet from the Boating Department, our official photographer, member Ian Ballantine and member Dean Van Teylingen who has taken some awesome images from his drone. You can view photos of the day here

Club Member Ian MacWilliams has generously made a video of the day, thanks Ian!
