Exactly 12 months ago it was about as busy as it can get. Whether you were one of the 38 competitors, one of the army of race organisers in both Melbourne and Osaka or one of the race followers from all around the world, every day, the Melbourne to Osaka Race created action.
Jo and Pete had just left Port Phillip aboard Morning Star and The Edge and Bartolome were set to follow. But as you’ll recall, Melbourne’s fickle weather pushed the next two starts around leaving only Chinese Whisper to start on time two weeks later.
Like all Ocean Racing events, the 2018 Melbourne Osaka Cup had it’s challenges but all competitors can surely look back and be proud of their achievements. Their stories and experiences from this race have now challenged a new group of hopeful competitors for our next Melbourne Osaka Cup set for 2023.
Melbourne to Osaka Expressions of Interest page for the 2023 race published only 4 months ago, has received has been extraordinary number of entries with over 40 now on the list. The Melbourne to Osaka Race Committee have received teams from France, Germany, Romania, Japan, NZ, Canada and from every State in Australia. Amongst them are a number of past competitors from the 2018 race along with some who did the race up to 30 years ago.
Some of our skippers have asked that we keep their interest in the race private at this stage but we have a number of stories that we’ll be able to bring to you soon. Keep an eye on The Melbourne to Osaka website for all the action.
