CORONAVIRUS MEMBER UPDATE – MONDAY 6 APRIL

Monday, 6th April 2020

CORRESPONDENCE TO MEMBERS via email on Monday 6 April

Dear Members,

Hope everyone is continuing to do their best to keep safe and well. A special mention to all the SYC Members who are healthcare workers – we are all inspired by you, indebted to your bravery and efforts to get our community through this battle – our hats off and our thanks to you.

A few updates to start the week off;

1) SYC Generally – Behind the scenes we continue to work through an incredibly challenging time for our Club on all fronts. The Commodore will be writing to all Members in the next week about the impact this situation is currently having on us, what we have done about it to date, our planning moving forward, what Membership initiatives we have in mind and how we can bring all of our stakeholders together by joining forces and enlisting everyone’s support to get your Club through this. In the interim please be patient with us as we work through this and we thank those who have made suggestions – everything is under consideration.

2) SYC Facility – Our marina remains fully accessible to authorised members, the boatyard remains open and you can get around the club using your fob key. On the weekend we kept a close eye on all boats in the windy weather – let me know if you can’t get down and you’d like some close attention paid to your boat. Facility updates will continue to be posted on this page. As it’s been front page news, you would be aware that recreational boating is currently not permitted by the Victorian Government. SYC is in dialogue with a range of industry partners on this issue to hopefully get recreational boating reinstated whilst adhering to social distancing rules. This would bring Victoria in line with the rest of Australia, giving the industry a fighting chance of survival while providing SYC Members with their exercise including mental wellbeing. I’ll keep you posted.

3) The SYC Members Podcast Episode Two – Host John Deeks and George Shaw explore member nicknames with Hendo, they catch up with David McCutcheon about his Mustang and then Dr David Keyes-Tilley about the dentistry industry during the current crisis. I also check in with the guys. The show finishes with a great song from The Pardoners – Lindsay Field, Sam See and Glyn Mason. Enjoy the listen  – for future episodes if you have an SYC tale to tell, call George 0411 464 802.

4) Connecting Our Community – since we launched last Friday, twenty seven SYC Member businesses have written in with offers for fellow Sandy Members – click here to see what’s on offer. If you’d like your business to get involved, reach out to Naomi on [email protected]

Warm Regards & Stay Safe,
