CORONAVIRUS MEMBER UPDATE – MONDAY 27 APRIL

Monday, 27th April 2020

CORRESPONDENCE TO MEMBERS via email on Monday 27 April

Dear Members

Hope everyone is well. If you missed the outstanding SYC Anzac Day video service you can view it here …. we have received exceptional feedback. Our thanks to the team led by George Shaw, John Deeks and Ian MacWilliams who put this together – you guys are really stepping up in a special way.

A couple of updates for you heading into the week;

1)      The SYC Members Podcast Episode Five – is now online and this week has a bit of a historical theme. Past Commodore Kate Mitchell joins George and Deeksie to chat with Margot Watt about past days at SYC and they find out from Andrew Warner about quarantine and how it came about. Peter (Snapper-man) Turrell tells us a few tales about fishing and more, then Life Member and Past Commodore Kevin (Red pants) Wood outlines the origins of his boats name Ticket of Leave and rounds off with a story of drama & intrigue. Listen here.

2)      Australian eSailing National Challenge – you may have noticed that Australian Sailing has thrown down the challenge for the Australian eSailing National Challenge. SYC has registered and hopes to take part in this three round challenge (round one – club challenge, round two – state championships, round three – national challenge) kicking off in the not too distant future. Stay tuned for further information on how this will work but for now, download the Virtual Regatta app (or play online) and start practicing! For more information click here.

3)      COVIDSafe App – please consider downloading the COVIDSafe App. It uses a phone’s Bluetooth to record a “digital handshake” with other devices that have been within 1.5 metres for 15 minutes. If a phone owner tests positive, the data can be used to quickly track the others in the group. We are supportive as it looks to be a very important tool for protecting everyone’s health and safety – you can read up on and download it here

4)      Ken King Centre Now Open Daily with Home Deliveries – re-confirming our phones are manned daily from 10am-4pm with home deliveries for our take away food back on. You can ring in with your order 9599 0999 and or if popping in, Ken King is offering take away food, coffee and alcohol daily 11am – 5pm. And a diary note for Mother’s Day – Sunday 10 May. Kol and the team will have a nice little package for you which will be available at the end of next week.

5)      Connecting Our Community – 40+ businesses now have something on offer for SYC Members – click here to check out the offers

Warm Regards & Stay Safe,

Richard Hewett
Chief Executive
