Challenge – supporting Kids with Cancer

Thursday, 10th March 2016

cancer @ bayOn Wednesday 13 January a group of SYC Members took out 20 Challenge kids for a fun day on these boats, Adrenalin, Carpe Diem, Femme Fatal, Gillian, 38 Degrees South and More Noise.  Sadly, a little boy who sailed on Adrenalin who had terminal cancer passed away last week, his name was George and he was 8 years old.  He said to his mum afterwards “it was the BEST day of my life!”

George...

I just want to say thank you to all those people who gave up their time to put smiles on these kid’s faces.  To give you a brief history, Challenge is a support group for kids with cancer and their families.  We have been taking Challenge kids out every year for a boating experience for 16 years and if you are interested in being part of this wonderful event, please contact Robyn Coombs.

Saturday 19 March is the Club Marine Series Race, Keeping Cancer at Bay, where all the entry fees go to Challenge.  Over the next week you will see Challenge tins around the club and after the race on Saturday 19 March there will be a BBQ and some tin rattling, with all donations going to Challenge.  Please give generously.
