Apollo Bay Yacht race

Well done to all the SYC yachts who participated in the ORCV Apollo Bay Race on Saturday 19th May 2018, which is the last ocean race in the ORCV 2017/2108 season.

This 52 nautical mile yacht race started at 3.30am Saturday morning in front of Queenscliff in cold and wet conditions, with 20 of the 23 entrants making it to the start line and with 17 yachts finishing the race.

SYC were well represented in this ocean race by Sm2105 (Algy Rose), Sm35 (Archie), Sm41 (Hot Chipps), Sm5508 (Hush), Sm133 (Patriot), Sm5005 (Shimmer) and Sm3535 (White Noise), making up 7 out of the 20 starters and with all 7 yachts finishing the race.

Congratulations to Jason Close and the Patriot team, who got the clean sweep with 1st place in all handicap categories (IRC, AMS and PHS) and 2nd line honours.  This was the first ocean race for Jason and the Patriot team, so here’s looking forward to seeing many more podium finishes for this yacht, which Jason is setting up to do a big offshore campaign, including the Sydney to Hobart this year.  We wish Jason and team continued success with Patriot.

Also, congratulations to Daniel Edwards and the White Noise team who supported Patriot on the podium with 2nd place in all handicap categories (IRC, AMS and PHS).  This finishes out another great ocean campaign season for White Noise, who had multiple podium places in the Devonport, King Island, Port Fairy and Apollo Bay races.  So the question remains, has White Noise done enough to win three ORCV Offshore Championships in a row?

Well done also to John Chipp and the Hot Chipps team for competing in and completing their first ocean race.
