Recreational Boating Cruise in Company Docklands – It’s great to be back

Monday, 14th December 2020

SYC had it’s first post COVID cruise – to Docklands in great weather from Friday 11 December to Sunday 13 December.

About 10 boats went down on the Friday in a strengthening southerly. The group had a lovely evening at the Docks with shared hospitality and getting to see old friends, or making new friends.

Some boat left Docklands on Saturday, while many more arrived, with the group ending up with 18 boats for Saturday night – with an even balance between sail and power. We had all of West Finger to ourselves so we all had a drink and major nibbles. The reverse quiz went well with Doug and Liz Jackson (Chinook) acclaimed as winners. George Shaw was congratulated by David McCutcheon for winning Recreational Boating person of the year, which was richly deserved. The Hunting’s went up the Melbourne Eye (Melbourne Star Observation Wheel) twice – once in the day and once at night to see the lights. A few brave people risked the cold and the uncertain state of the water to swim and the rest of us retired to bed – late by our standards. It all finished with a pleasant sail (or motor) home on Sunday.

A great weekend.

The next events are a raft up on Saturday January 9 – and then an Australia Day long weekend cruise to Geelong returning via Wyndham Harbour.
