After months of anticipation, the Cruise in Company/Bass Strait Cruise commenced on Saturday March 9 with a sail or motor to Martha Cove. In the second half the wind picked up so we had an enjoyable couple of hours sailing down. 17 boats berthed at Martha Cove and the channel was fractionally (only fractionally) deeper than last year. After frivolity and good food bed was followed by a quick dash across to Queenscliff on Sunday. We had about 10 boats arrive in a one hour window when a 25-30 knot un-forecast westerly sprung up at the wharf, so it was a bit chaotic. Unfortunately due to the conditions one boat diverted to Blairgowrie and one “went home”. One SYC member ended up in the water at the back of his berthed boat, but saved his phone before he went right in.
After a lot of discussion on Sunday evening the Bass Strait/Westernport leg was abandoned due to the forecast 25-30 knots on the Tuesday. So after a leisurely breakfast on Monday, boats departed for SYC, Port Arlington, Wyndham harbour in very pleasant conditions.
