Congratulations to Hugh Pilsworth.
SYC member Hugh Pilsworth was recently awarded the “Trophy of Australia ” by the Ocean Cruising Club (OCC).
This was in recognition of his completed circumnavigation on Blue Flyer and his encouragement and willingness to introduce crew to offshore cruising. Hugh had many SYC members, family and friends crew various legs. He also took on two young South Africans who were part of a Youth Sponsorship Programme. The OCC Youth Sponsorship Programme aims to introduce young people to long distance sailing passages. Hugh certainly did this! Michael and Jaimie joined Hugh on Blue Flyer in Cape Town and crewed across the southern Atlantic Ocean to Brazil and then up the South American coast to the Caribbean and Cuba and then through the Panama Canal. What an amazing experience for two teenagers from Johannesburg. They could have had no better introduction to cruising than crewing aboard Blue Flyer with Hugh as skipper. Congratulations and well done Hugh.
