Club Marine SYC Boating Academy Special Visitor – Lisa Darmanin, Rio Olympic Silver Medallist – Nacra 17 Class

Monday, 19th September 2016

Students of the Club Marine SYC Boating Academy were extremely fortunate today to have a visit from a very special guest.  Lisa Darmanin has just returned back from the Rio Olympic Games where she won the silver medal in the Nacra 17 class.  The young sailors who are undertaking their first week of sailing had an opportunity to hold her medal and ask questions about the Games.

Lisa began sailing with brother Evan on Sydney Harbour at the age of 9. She progressed through the junior skiff classes and was up for a challenge when the crew spot became vacant with Jason in 2008 to compete in the ISAF Multihull Youth Worlds. In 2009 when they won Gold, they were the first mixed crew ever to achieve this.  In 2015, Lisa was named Australian Female Sailor of the Year.

There are places still places available for the school holiday programs starting next week.

7 to 12 year olds  –  Tackers
