An annual Recreational Boating activity for the club during January is an organised raft up and for the second year in a row we all headed up to RMYS in St Kilda on Saturday. Thirty boats made the trip this year in warm calm conditions and because of the number of boats, it was decided that the fleet should pull up either side of the concourse alongside the marina, instead of the wave baffle where we landed last year.
The fleet was made up of all types of boats from our club membership and it made a spectacular site as we headed north during the morning. It didn’t take long for everyone to settle in with picnic tables and loads of food and drink on offer to all. Early in the afternoon Royals Commodore Janet Dean paid us a visit, passing on best wishes from her club. Although the day started off overcast, by early afternoon the sun was out making it ideal for a cool ale and even for some, a dip in the water.
The forecast predicted that the wind would pick up during the afternoon and about 3pm that’s exactly what it did. Our fleet was soon heading home and all safely back in their pens by about 5pm. Thanks to RMYS for their hospitality once again this year and thanks to all skippers and crews who helped make the day a success.
Big thank you to SYC member Ian MacWilliams for these photos and report!
