WISC SURVEY

Introduction

The Women In Sailing Challenge (WISC) is SYC’s version of the “female-helm race” except we require women to occupy positions of skipper, trimmer and bow. WISC has been a part of the SYC Calendar for over 20 years, evolving along the way to a one-day sprint series event which is held currently.

In 2019, just five of the 17 boats sailing on the day were from SYC. Three of these boats were a part of the racing fleet and just one boat entered the Port Phillip Women’s Championship Series (PPWCS) which is comprised of each of the keelboat clubs “female-helm” race.

Over the past 4 years the number of SYC boats entered has fallen. While we have some ideas about why, this survey is an opportunity for SYC members to provide their feedback on their understanding, requirement and thoughts on the WISC. All SYC members are invited to provide their feedback as you will all likely have had a different experience with WISC.

Aim

To determine whether there is an appetite for the Women In Sailing Challenge at SYC in it’s current format.

Audience
