The average wind speed recorded at Fawkner Beacon for the afternoon was about 21 knots – the highest for a race this series. With three of the 38 yachts retiring, it was not an afternoon free of incidents. There was a timely and very successful recovery of a man overboard carried out by DOLPHIN PLAY (John Brennan). In a second incident STAMPEDE opted to retire from the race apparently after it was noted that personal flotation devices were not worn during the race. This cost STAMPEDE a podium finish.
