A delay of forty minutes was enough to see the breeze at Fawkner Beacon increase from zero to five knots and allow race 8 to get underway. About a dozen or more optimistic yachts had been waiting under blue skies on flat seas since about 1300 for the breeze to arrive. When it did arrive they were joined by another 2 dozen to make a fleet of 36. They enjoyed a race in ideal sailing conditions around a shortened course 19.
