Good visibility, blue skies, flat seas and a northerly breeze all contributed to a fantastic WW race. Although the wind strength varied from time to time observations at Fawkner Beacon indicated it increased as the race progressed and averaged about 9 knots for the afternoon. Thirty five yachts started the race around the 10.7 nautical mile course 40 and thirty four yachts finished the race around a shortened course. The late starters pursued and overtook most of the earlier starters but were unable catch a handful of yachts that held on to a lead established early in the race. Read more…
