This was the first race of the series to be abandoned due to gale force winds. At Fawkner Beacon northerly winds averaged 29 knots for the afternoon with gusts in the late afternoon of more than 40 knots. These were the highest wind speeds recorded on a Wednesday afternoon so far this series.
The afternoon was in stark contrast to the lack of breeze (average 3 knots) of the previous week. Despite being a windy day the average wind speed for the series is about 13.5 knots noticeably less than the 15.6 for the summer series … read more
