Wednesday Wonders Winter Series 2018 Race 10 – A Slow Start but Faster Finish

Warm winter sunshine, flat water and light variable breezes were the recipe for race 10. The breeze was so light that the start was delayed by 30 minutes in the expectation that conditions would improve. They didn’t. This left the large 39 yacht fleet searching for the best patches of breeze in the shortest race of the series. The breeze probably varied more around the course than observations at Fawkner indicate but they produced an absorbing afternoons sailing. Fawkner Beacon recorded an average speed of about 7 knots for the afternoon increasing from 3 to 10 knots as the afternoon progressed.
