Wednesday Wonders Winter Series 2017 Race 9 – A Successful Day for the Bigger Yachts

A fleet of 29 yachts contested race 9 around the 6 leg 9.9 nautical mile course 14. In a breeze that averaged about 14 knots and fluctuated around the south south west. About 46% of the course was downwind with the remainder to windward. The yachts with higher handicaps fared the best in these conditions. Of the first 10 yachts across the finish line 8 were among the late starters. Winning the race and recording her first podium finish of the series was the Beneteau First 40 WICKED (Mike Welsh). Finishing 1 minute after WICKED was STAMPEDE (Christopher Gendala) who also recorded her first podium finish. Both these yachts registered an elapsed time of 1:37:08.
