Following a gale warning issued by BOM late Wednesday morning race 5 was abandoned. Observations taken at Fawkner Beacon saw the wind average about 26 knots for the afternoon with a gust of 42 knots recorded at about 1630. The wind strength for what would have been this race was in stark contrast to that observed in the first 4 races of the summer which averaged only 11 knots.
