Wednesday Wonders Race 8 summer 2017 – A case study in Applied Psychology and Handicaps

Race 8 was an interesting study of Applied Psychology for Sandy Capper. When a yacht wins a race in a fleet of 43 yachts by 4:26 minutes, you have to ask questions. It wasn’t that the whole fleet were spread out, just the first 4 yachts to cross the line. In the 10mins after the 6th yacht finished 33 yachts crossed the line. 2 yachts retired. The wind did freshen a little so there was not a big advantage for early starters, unlike Race 7. The chosen course did have 2 long downwind legs, which made up 33% of the course and did not offer much catch up time. Read more…
