Wednesday Wonders Race 4 Winter Series 2017 – Gale Warning Keeps Fleet Tied Up

The passage of a strong cold front producing a cold, strong and unstable south westerly airflow was behind the forecast of a gale warning for Wednesday. BOM forecast squalls to a possible 45 knots with showers and thunderstorms during the morning and afternoon with seas to 2.5 metres. The worst of the weather occurred during the morning when Fawkner Beacon recorded gusts of 41 knots. Nevertheless, there were gusts of 30 knots in the afternoon when the wind speed averaged 26 knots mainly from the south south west. No yachts could be seen on the bay from the northern podium.
