Race 13 ended when the last of the 31 yacht fleet crossed the finish line with 13 minutes 34 seconds left in the race and 23 minutes 34 seconds before sunset. (The photo shows ESPRIT (Garry Anderson) heading home after completing the race.) The race had been around a shortened course 42. Course 42 is an 8 leg course of 11.7 nautical miles which was shortened to a 5 leg course of about 7.3 nautical miles. With the breeze averaging only 7 knots for the afternoon it resulted in the longest race of the series with an averaged elapsed time of 2:29:25. Read more…
