This race had plenty of action and interest to keep the series in suspense. The average breeze recorded at Fawkner Beacon for the afternoon was 22 knots – the second highest of the series. This was enough to power the 33-yacht fleet around the 8-leg 10.1 nautical mile course 28 in a record time. Being a south easterly allowed most yachts to complete 5 legs of the course on a single tack. The average elapsed time was the fastest of the series and every yacht recorded its fastest apparent speed for any of the 22 completed races. Despite being the longest course selected the race finished earlier than any other. Two thirds of the fleet crossed the finish line within 10 minutes of the winner and a yacht crossed the finish on average every 26 seconds – the second closest finish of the series. Read more…
