SYC’s Intrusion wins its 13th S80 State Championship

Congratulations to Luke Reinehr and Intrusion’s crew of Mike Keusgen, Aaron Cole, Joffa Goldsmith and Cameron Way. With consistent pace and excellent crew work they have again taken out the S80 State Championship, held at Royal Yacht Club of Victoria between 8-10 January 2021, with results of 1, 3, 3, 1, 1, (4) and 1.

This win now takes Intrusion to 13 State Titles and 9 second placings in the last 22 years, which is a great record for consistency in one-design keel boat racing.

Light breezes and warm weather provided for champagne sailing at RYCV with 5-12 knots throughout the regatta.

Seventeen yachts competed in the S80 State Championship from around the Bay which was a fantastic endorsement for the popular S80 fleet in the current COVID environment that has seen many yacht races and regattas cancelled over the last year.

In second place by two points was MYC’s “Runamuk”, which sailed a very consistent regatta and provided strong competition for Intrusion. SYC was also well represented with Russell Keays’ “Bon Vivant” in 11th position.
