SYC Update 16 July

Friday, 16th July 2021

CORRESPONDENCE TO SYC Members on Friday 16 July

Hi Members,

Déjà vu it seems. Very late in the day yesterday the Premier announced circuit breaker restrictions that are in place at this stage until 11:59pm on Tuesday 20 July. That means there are five permitted reasons to leave home and the return of the 5km radius. Those 5 reasons are: shopping, authorised work, care or caregiving, to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and exercise (there is a 2 hour limit on exercise and you may only exercise with 1 other person or members of your household).

As before, SYC is well prepared for this situation and we will maintain the needs of the Club, our several hundred boat owners including those who may be geographically restricted. We are seeking clarity on a range of issues but until that comes through, please note the following as it relates to SYC for the duration of the lockdown;

  • Communication – our phones will be manned daily from 10am – 4pm 9599 0999.
  • Safety Officer – We have a designated safety officer onsite each day to assist with our marina, facility and environmental obligations. If we discover anything that warrants some attention (boat owners), we’ll do our best to rectify the situation and we’ll give you a call. The name and phone number of the safety officer will be on display at the Ken King Centre and they will be onsite between 9am – 4pm daily.
  • Boat Checks – If you are unable to get down to the Club or if you live outside of the 5km radius, and would like a staff member to check on your vessel, then please let boating know [email protected] – we will be providing daily checks of all areas of the Club including the Marina, Boat Yard, Hardstand and Off the Beach areas.
  • Ken King Centre – From today, the Ken King Centre will be open daily from 10am – 4pm offering takeaway coffees, takeaway beverages and very limited takeaway food.
  • If you reside within 5km – For boat owning Members, and all Members who live within a 5km radius of SYC you can visit SYC and check on your boat whilst you are getting in your daily exercise (i.e. walking or riding) or buying food and beverage from the Ken King Centre. You can also drive to the Club, park and then get in your exercise.
  • Organised Racing & Academy Courses – unfortunately we are not permitted to run any organised SYC boating activities during this lockdown.
  • Recreational Boating – activities including boating and fishing we currently understand are allowed for those who live within 5km. Please note the 2 hour exercise limit.
  • Boat Yard – the boat yard and travel lift operations remain open but only professional contractors are authorised to carry out works. I have written to our tenants and contractors separately. We are also permitted to assist with emergencies.
  • Clubhouse & Rescheduled Club Events – the main clubhouse is closed and we have been in touch with everyone who had bookings. We have also reached out to all event bookings. As the lockdown unfolds we will assess the series of imminent club events scheduled over the coming weeks but we remain hopeful they will proceed. Fingers crossed.

If coming down, naturally all of the normal COVID-19 requirements apply whilst onsite – social distancing, wearing a face covering, practising good hygiene and scanning the QR Code.

And for peace of mind, a reminder SYC uses Monjon, a specialist security company, to keep an eye on things. These important services include mobile patrol services after hours, 7 days per week. These include overnight marina and venue patrols, electronic surveillance including alarm monitoring services and emergency incident management security services. These services are in place and will be fully operational during the lockdown.

As further announcements are made, we will be in touch

Warm Regards & Stay Safe,

Richard Hewett
