SYC Update 12 February 2021

Friday, 12th February 2021

CORRESPONDENCE TO SYC Members via email on Friday 12 February

Hi Members,

As you are no doubt aware, the Premier has announced that a stage 4 lockdown will occur from 11:59pm tonight Friday 12 February and will end at 11:59pm on Wednesday, 17 February.

That means there are four permitted reasons to leave home: shopping for the things you need, care and caregiving, and exercise and work if it is essential. Exercise (2 hour limit) and shopping is limited to five kilometres from your home.

So with these things in mind, please note the following as it relates to SYC …..

  • Our phones will be manned daily from 10am – 5pm 9599 0999
  • If you are unable to get down to the Club, and would like a staff member to check on your vessel, then please let boating know [email protected]
  • The main clubhouse will be closed from midnight tonight until midnight on Wednesday 17 February.
  • Ken King will be open daily from 10am – 5pm offering coffees, take away beverages and very limited food.
  • There will be no organised SYC boating activities during this lockdown.
  • For boat owning Members, and all Members who live within a 5km radius of SYC you can visit SYC and check on your boat whilst you are getting in your daily exercise (i.e. walking or riding) or buying food and beverage from the Ken King Centre. You can also drive to the club, park and then get in your exercise.
  • We will have a designated safety officer onsite each day to assist with our marina, facility and environmental obligations. As is normally the case, if we discover anything that we think might need some attention (boat owners), we’ll do our best to rectify the situation if action is required and we’ll also give you a call to update you on the situation.

Together with our boating and marine industry partners, we are seeking clarity from Government on;

  • boat owners who live outside of the 5km radius and their permitted ability to check on their boats (as was the case last time). In the interim, if you would like a staff member to check on your vessel, then please let boating know [email protected]
  • the extent, if any, to which the boat yard can operate for essential maintenance and safety related reasons – but for the time being there will be no slipping unless it is an emergency
  • if exercise includes boating and fishing

When I get answers I will be back in touch.

If coming down, naturally all of the normal COVID-19 requirements apply whilst onsite – social distancing, wearing a face covering and practising good hygiene.

Warm Regards & Stay Safe,
