SYC Update 10 June 2021

Thursday, 10th June 2021

CORRESPONDENCE TO SYC Members via email on Thursday 10 June

Hi Members

Thanks for your ongoing loyalty and offers of support, we have an amazing membership community here at Sandy. The good news is despite last night’s winds we are still here and in one piece. Here is the update on the easing of restrictions;

The Clubhouse will re-open from tomorrow, recreational boating for those residing within 25km is permitted without time restrictions, competitive sailing looks set to return from Sat 19 June, the boat yard will be open now to both contractors and boat owners, our Club Marine SYC Boating Academy can run training courses and the Ken King Centre will remain open daily for now. Unfortunately we have had to reschedule next week’s INXSIVE band night.   The relevant details are below;

1. Boating & Competitive Sailing Update

  • All training and recreational boating can re-commence from Friday 11 June for those living within 25km of the Club. We understand there are no time restrictions.
  • Pending next week’s announcement, competitive sailing is set to recommence any time after Fri 18 June onwards. So we’re adding a race to the calendar on Saturday 19 June at 1:30pm – we’re going to take this opportunity to re-sail the Kingston Slalom Trophy race which was abandoned on 8 May due to no wind and all boats are encouraged to participate (it’s free and you can enter here), irrespective of whether you would normally sail on a Saturday or not. After this, we’re back as per the calendar with racing on Wednesday 23, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 June. For our OTB enthusiasts, we have the first of our winter sailing days scheduled for Sunday 20 June – this will consist of 3-4 short sprint races and will be a standalone series each weekend.
  • Training is permitted from tomorrow so all of our Club Marine SYC Boating Academy courses will re-commence over the coming week for those who reside <25km.

2. Boat owners outside of the 25km radius – if you reside +25km from SYC, and you are a boat owner and you need to do absolutely essential maintenance, or conduct essential checks then we are advised that you are permitted to come to SYC for this purpose. If you would like a supporting letter please contact [email protected]

3. Clubhouse & Ken King Centre – we will be re-opening the clubhouse from tomorrow in line with the restrictions (50 Members & their guests at one time indoors). So lunch and dinner is back on and it is for seated service, with bookings essential – please call the friendly reception team on 9599 0999. Reception will also re-open daily from tomorrow 10am-6pm. The food offer will initially be the bar menu with daily specials. As restrictions hopefully ease further, the menu will expand and thereafter include things like the tapas menu.

4. Monday 14 June Queens Birthday Public Holiday – trading this coming Monday is as per below;

  • Clubhouse 11:30am – 4pm with 2 lunch sittings, the first at 11:30am and the second from 1:30pm. Please book prior to Monday as reception will be closed on the day.
  • The Ken King Centre will trade from 9am-2pm.

5. Ken King Centre – will continue to trade daily from 9am-4pm with hot coffee, take home meals etc. As above, on the public holiday Monday we will close at 2pm.

6. SYC Boat Yard – the boat yard and travel lift operations have already been underway but now it is open for both professional contractors and boat owners (<25km). Karen is back in the office taking bookings 9599 0901 and Paul Gascoigne is onsite 0407 829 851.

7. Club Events – a number of events have had to be re-scheduled and we have been in touch with those with bookings. Unfortunately we also need to reschedule INXSIVE from 18 June to the new date of Friday 12 November. Naomi will be in touch with those of you who have already purchased tickets shortly.

Please remember it’s mandatory if coming down to SYC that you check in via one of the many QR codes we have on display throughout the club. If you are having difficulty doing this, or you do not have a smart phone, please ask the staff and they will readily assist. All of the normal COVID-19 requirements apply whilst onsite – social distancing, wearing a face covering and practising good hygiene.

As further announcements are made, we will be in touch.

Warm Regards & Stay Safe,

Richard Hewett
