CRUISE IN COMPANY TO DOCKLANDS

Thursday, 6th April 2017

Friday 31 March and Saturday 1 April saw a group of Sandringham Yacht Club sail and power boat owners enjoying spending time on their boats and socialising with like minded people.

How lucky are we to have such wonderful facilities just a short trip up the Bay! Docklands Waterfront City Marina is a great place to spend a weekend (or longer), particularly if you share it with a group of fun loving fellow boaties. Friday saw 14 boats make their way to the marina and enjoy a catch up dockside before heading off for a choice of dinner options. Some boats self-catered using the marina lounge and cooking facilities whilst others chose to make the most of the excellent restaurants available in Docklands. Most sailors then opted for coffee or a night cap in the lounge before heading back to their boats to rest and recover for the next evening.

Saturday was free to do as you pleased before getting together in the evening for dinner and more socialising! Many skippers and crews found their way to Whitworths. Some just to browse, others with serious shopping in mind. Also on offer in the city was the Food and Wine Festival, the National Art Gallery of Victoria, The Garden and Flower Show and a host of other shopping options.

Saturday afternoon saw another 6 boats join the festivities in time for dinner in the Marina lounge. During the afternoon the Rec. Boating committee, and friends, spent time setting up for the 50+ people expected for dinner. The aromas from the slow cookers was mouth-watering and the table settings set the stage for a night of Indian themed fun. The food didn’t disappoint. Beautiful curries and plenty of rice, naan bread, pappadams, chutneys and raita to accompany them. The mains were followed by a selection of pastries and fruit platters to finish off the meal.

Following the meal David and Kate McCutcheon were congratulated on their recent victory in the SYC Cup NavRally. ???? What a very well deserved win. Well done David and Kate.

Once the food was cleared away it was time to turn the night over to TK’s music and get down to the serious business of dancing! It was very welcome to have an extra hour’s sleep, due to turning back the clocks to end daylight savings. Most boats had a leisurely breakfast before heading back to SYC although at least one boat was extending their stay to make the most of the proximity to Etihad Stadium for the football and then a concert in the evening to follow.

Thank you to everyone for their help in making this such an enjoyable weekend.
