Sunday Sailors Winter Series Race 10 – Longest Course of the Series

At 11.8 nautical miles, course 43 is one of the longer if not the longest course sailed on a Sunday. A long course provides more opportunity for at least some of the late starters to pursue, catch and overtake the early ones. That didn’t happen in this instance as most early starters were able to remain at the front. This could be partly due to the course being sailed in a west to SSW breeze that averaged around 14 knots for the morning. This meant that about 80% of the course could be sailed on a beat. Despite the longer than usual length, all 17 starters completed the race well within the 1230 time limit.
