Excellent sailing conditions welcomed the 23 yacht fleet for race 5. The forecast was for a 10 to 15 knot westerly becoming a southerly of the same strength. The breeze changed direction from west to south during the race changing the original point of sail for some of the legs. The breeze also eased (averaging 8 knots at Fawkner) during the morning resulting in seven lucky yachts finishing the race.
