Sunday Sailors Summer Series 2017-18 Race 13 – Incident Filled Final Race

Before the last race began it was clear that this last race of the series would determine not only the winner of the Summer Aggregate but also the winners of the Sunday Plate and Noelle Coram Trophies. That was achieved by race end but not without incident. Of the 26 starters, five retired. Of those five, BLUE TACK (Andy Lynch) successfully recovered a man overboard, whilst the mast on SHES A LADY (Boyd Coulson) decided it needed a rest and had a lie down. The BOM forecast for the race was for a 15 to 20 knot northerly. Observations at Fawkner Beacon indicated it averaged 18 knots but it did exceed the 20 knots in the late morning.
