Sundance Marine Thursday Twilight Series Returns

Sundance Marine Thursday Twilight Series Returns This Thursday 9 October, 1800hrs

Sandringham Yacht Club’s much-loved Sundance Marine Thursday Twilight Series sets sail again this week, marking the start of another spectacular summer of sailing, sunsets and fun on the Bay.

Designed primarily as a fun and social evening on the water, the Twilight Series runs every Thursday during Daylight Savings, from October through to late March. The series is run across 22 twilight races, including six optional Female Helm and five optional Youth Helm (under 30) nights. The program celebrates participation, community and friendly competition. The final evening, fondly known as The Last Blast, whilst not officially part of the series is hugely popular and will wrap up the season in true Sandy style.

Races commence from the SYC Tower in a “pursuit” format, with smaller boats starting first and faster yachts chasing from behind, the aim being that the fleet finishes close together. Two divisions (A and B) ensure enjoyable racing for all speeds and experience levels, and courses are sailed around fixed marks over 1 to 1.5 hours. After racing, all participants and members are invited back to the clubhouse for a relaxed meal and great company. This year’s social calendar features live entertainment on 11 of the 22 evenings, including solo artists, duos, and two DJ nights on Youth Helm evenings – the perfect way to round off a twilight sail. Keep an eye on our monthly calendar for the line-up of artists.
